When you start using Microsoft Edge, you’ll find your Start and New Tab pages filled with a stream of articles. You may find valuable information to stay up-to-date with current news and events or even practical information like how to remove the articles on Edge’s Start Page. That’s why even other browsers like Opera have a similar feature.

However, it gets irritating when your browser is filled with sponsored listings. So you might ask, “Can I get rid of articles in Microsoft Edge?” Yes.

Reasons for Removing Articles from Microsoft Edge’s Start Page

The main reason for removing the articles on the Edge Start Page is to get rid of irritating adverts. You may also have a limited data plan and want to avoid unnecessary data usage. In this case, you need to remove more than just the Edge news feed. You probably need to completely disable all Windows built-in advertising. The adverts can be seen in such places as the lock screen via Windows Spotlight and “suggested apps” in the Start menu.

There’s also an inherent security risk in having articles displayed on the Edge browser. Some people can mistake them for being content from Microsoft. People may also get a false sense of security, assuming that the websites that appear in the news feed are secure just for being displayed on Microsoft Edge. To be on the safe side, it’s always wise to have effective anti-malware software like

Auslogics Anti-Malware, in case you click on any article that leads to a dangerous site.

Removing Articles from Microsoft Edge’s Start Page

Removing the articles on your Start page is a simple process:

  1. Click the gear icon or the Hide Feed” link located at the top-right corner.
  2. Check the option “Hide my news feed.”
  3. Click “Save.”

Once that is done, the articles in our news feed will disappear. The start page will now have a Bing search box on an empty page.

Removing Articles from Microsoft Edge’s New Tab Page

The changes you made on the Start Page will not automatically apply to Edge’s New Tab page. You have to implement new configuration settings to stop articles appearing on your browser every time you open a new tab.

Here’ how to do it:

  1. On the New Tab page, click the gear icon or the Hide Feed” option located at the top-right corner.
  2. From the options you get, select “A blank page.”
  3. Click “Save.”

You’ll now have a blank page whenever you open a new tab. With the New Tab settings, you also have the option of selecting specific sites that will display articles in the news feed. Therefore, instead of choosing the “A blank page” option, you can pick the “Top Sites” option.

However, all these changes may not last if Windows installs a big update on your computer. This may result in your Edge news feed being reactivated. You’ll then have to disable it every time following a significant update.
