Since the early days of Windows, users have always nursed concerns about their personal data being probed and gathered by Microsoft. While Windows 11 comes with many performance improvements and extra layers of security, users won’t settle because some of the probes from previous Windows versions have found their way into the OS.

Reports of web-based attacks designed to help hackers get away with sensitive information have also put users on edge. Everyone is now concerned about how to stay secure online.

How to protect personal data on Windows?

To launch the tool, head to the All Tools tab in Auslogics BoostSpeed, then go to System Tools and find Tweak Manager. Once Tweak Manager is fired up, the Auslogics Tweak Manager dialog will pop up with the following message:

“Program is running in Beginner mode. Would you like to switch to Expert mode and get access to an extended list of options?”

The dialog will go on to tell you that switching to the Expert mode will help you tweak more features but advanced Windows skills are required. You can enter the Expert mode to check out the options available to you, and if you feel they`re too much for you, go to the Settings interface and switch back to the Beginner mode. You can grow used to the app and learn how to use the advanced features better as time goes on.

Switch to the left pane of the Tweak Manager interface to find the System Security category.

Click on System Security or click on the arrow beside it to find entries such as:

• UAC
• Privacy Policy
• Windows Defender
• User Tracking
• Application Rights
• Logon
• Location

Tweaks to improve security

These subcategories contain many different options that will allow you to tweak your Windows security settings and change and add certain privacy policies. You`ll get to tweak the User Account Control behavior, make changes to Windows Defender (Windows Security), determine the rights of various applications, fine-tune your login environment, and change location settings, amongst others.

Once you open a category, you`ll find checkboxes and radio buttons in the main window of Tweak Manager for the tweaks you can apply. Towards the bottom of the main window is the description of each subcategory with suggestions and recommendations.

Indicators for each tweak appear under the description. They tell you the particulars of the option you want to choose. The indicators will specify whether you need to restart your PC for a particular tweak, the impact a tweak will have on your PC (Lite, Moderate, or Power), whether a tweak falls under the Beginner or Expert mode, and the level of risk for each tweak (Basic or Advanced).

Try not to apply too many tweaks at once. Making your changes one after the other will let you know which setting causes any issue on your operating system. You can then use the Rescue Center in BoostSpeed to revert your changes if need be.
