Update Windows<\/h3>\n

Updating your Windows 11 operating system is critical. Since the OS is still in its infancy, Microsoft will continue to roll out updates and hotfixes to rectify specific issues. The File Explorer lagging issue could be one of those problems the company has registered as a bug and fixed in a released update.<\/p>\n

                            The process could take a while depending on how badly your disk is fragmented.<\/p>\n

                            To prevent this issue from happening in the future, allow Windows to optimize your drive regularly. You can choose to do it monthly or weekly. Go to the Scheduled Optimization section in the Optimize Drives window and click on the Change Settings button to do that.<\/p>\n

                            You could also install a solid-state drive to avoid the headache of fragmentation.<\/p>\n

                            Activate the Classic File Explorer<\/h3>\n

                            While the revamped ribbon menu in Windows 11 is a breath of fresh air, going back to the previous UI could resolve the lags you\u2019re experiencing.<\/p>\n

                            The process involves adding a new string to the system registry. It\u2019s a complex and technical process, so ensure you know what you\u2019re doing. A single mistake in the system registry could destabilize your OS. So, if you don\u2019t know your way around the Registry Editor, get someone with the knowledge to assist you.<\/p>\n

                            Also, it would be wise to back up the system registry. This way, you can restore your current settings if something goes wrong. Follow these steps:<\/p>\n

                            1. Open the Search box, type \u201cregistry editor,\u201d and click Registry Editor.<\/li>\n
                            2. You can also open the Run dialog box (Win + R), type \u201cregedit,\u201d and hit the Enter key.<\/li>\n
                            3. Click Yes in the UAC pop-up.<\/li>\n
                            4. After the Registry Editor opens, click File >> Export.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
