When you cancel the prompt, it throws up an error message that reads, \u201cThe connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. The continuous Outlook password prompt seems to mostly affect older versions of Outlook. The good news is that the issue is fixable, and in this post, we\u2019ll show you how to stop Outlook from asking for your password when connecting to Office 365.<\/p>\n<h2>Why Does Outlook 365 Keep Asking for a User\u2019s Password?<\/h2>\n<h3>Here are some of the possible reasons that could lead Outlook to keep asking for your password:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>There is likely to be a problem with your Outlook app\u2019s settings.<\/li>\n<li>If you have recently updated or upgraded your OS, your new settings might be triggering the issue.<\/li>\n<li>Your profile could be configured in such a way that it needs to authenticate your credentials every time you send an email.<\/li>\n<li>Your profile could be corrupted due to a malware attack.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How to Stop Outlook From Continually Prompting for a User&#8217;s Password<\/h2>\n<p>To resolve this problem, here are a few workarounds that you can try.<\/p>\n<h3>Solution 1: Clear Your Cached Passwords<\/h3>\n<p>Start by clearing your cached passwords using the Control Panel. To do that, follow the steps below:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Press the Windows logo key on your keyboard and look for \u201cControl Panel\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Once you open it, search for \u201cUser Accounts\u201d, and open the link.<\/li>\n<li>In the right pane, look for the link that says \u201cCredentials Manager\u201d and select it.<\/li>\n<li>Search for saved logins that have the word Outlook in their names and select each one of them to display more options. Click on \u201cRemove\u201d to delete them from your PC.<\/li>\n<li>Close Control Panel and restart your PC.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This fix should get rid of the error. If it doesn&#8217;t, check out the next fix.<\/p>\n<h3>Solution 2: Set the \u2018Logon Network Security\u2019 Setting to Anonymous Authentication<\/h3>\n<p>If you&#8217;re using an older version of Outlook, the \u2018Logon network security\u2019 setting in the Microsoft Exchange dialog box may be set to a value other than Anonymous Authentication. To fix this issue, follow the simple guide below:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>If Outlook is running, close it.<\/li>\n<li>Go to the Control Panel (as shown in step 1 above), and set the \u201cView by:\u201d setting to \u201cLarge Icons\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Locate \u201cMail\u201d and click on it to open it.<\/li>\n<li>On the next screen, click on the \u201cShow Profiles\u2026\u201d option.<\/li>\n<li>Choose your profile and then click on \u201cProperties\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Click on \u201cE-mail Accounts\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>In the \u201cAccount Settings\u201d window, select your email account and click on the \u201cChange\u201d option.<\/li>\n<li>On the next screen, select \u201cMore Settings\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>In the \u201cMicrosoft Exchange\u201d dialog box, click on the \u201cSecurity\u201d tab and choose \u201cAnonymous Authentication\u201d from the \u201cLogon network security\u201d list.<\/li>\n<li>Click \u201cOK\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Click Next &gt; Finish.<\/li>\n<li>Exit the \u201cAccount Settings\u201d and \u201cMail Setup\u201d dialog boxes.<\/li>\n<li>Exit the \u201cMail\u201d control panel.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This workaround should stop Outlook from repeatedly asking for your password when connecting to Office 365.<\/p>\n<h3>Solution 3: Enable the Remember Password Option<\/h3>\n<p>Many sites nowadays offer the option to remember passwords so that you don\u2019t have to enter your credentials every time you log in to your accounts. Outlook also offers you that feature, and you may be getting the error because the \u2018Remember password\u2019 option is disabled.<\/p>\n<h4>Try re-enabling this option to check if it fixes your problem. Here\u2019s how:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Go to the Cortana search bar (or press Win + S), type in <b>Outlook<\/b>, and then press \u201cEnter\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Click on the \u201cFile\u201d tab, and select \u201cAccount Settings\u201d to open a list of options.<\/li>\n<li>Select \u201cAccount Settings\u201d, find your account under the \u201cE-mail\u201d tab, and double-click on it.<\/li>\n<li>On the screen that appears next, under the \u201cLogon Information\u201d section, check if the \u201cRemember password\u201d checkbox is checked. If it isn\u2019t, check it.<\/li>\n<li>Click \u201cNext\u201d to save the changes.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Solution 4: Disable the \u2018Always Prompt for Logon Credentials\u2019 Option<\/h3>\n<p>If you\u2019ve set Outlook to always prompt for logon credentials, it may explain why the application keeps asking you for a password when connecting to Microsoft Office. To resolve this issue once and for all, follow the steps below:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Launch the Outlook app and click on the \u201cFile\u201d tab.<\/li>\n<li>Click on \u201cAccount Settings\u201d, and choose \u201cAccount Settings\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Click on your email account to highlight it, and then click on \u201cChange\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Click on \u201cMore Settings\u2026\u201d and move to the \u201cSecurity\u201d tab.<\/li>\n<li>Uncheck the option that says \u201cAlways prompt for logon credentials\u201d under \u201cUser identification\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Click \u201cOK\u201d to save your changes and close Outlook.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Solution 5: Use a New Outlook Profile<\/h3>\n<p>If, for some reason, your Outlook profile has been corrupted, you may run into issues, like the Outlook password error. Creating a new profile might help fix the problem. Here is how to do so:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Close Outlook.<\/li>\n<li>Open the Control Panel. Simply press on the Windows logo key on your keyboard, type in \u201ccontrol panel\u201d (without quotes), and hit \u201cEnter\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Select \u201cUser Account\u201d and open the \u201cMail\u201d link in the right pane.<\/li>\n<li>On the pop-up screen, open the \u201cShow Profiles\u2026\u201d option.<\/li>\n<li>Under the \u201cGeneral\u201d tab, click on \u201cAdd\u201d and name the new profile.<\/li>\n<li>Click \u201cOK\u201d and fill in your details.<\/li>\n<li>Click \u201cNext\u201d, and then click \u201cFinish\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Now enable the \u201cAlways use this profile\u201d option.<\/li>\n<li>Click \u201cOK\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Solution 6: Update Outlook<\/h3>\n<p>If the above solutions don\u2019t yield positive results, there could be something wrong with your Outlook app. In that case, updating it could fix any bugs. To update Outlook, follow these steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Run the Outlook app, open File &gt; Office Account.<\/li>\n<li>On the right pane, you\u2019ll find the \u201cUpdate Options\u201d setting.
