Removing the search box placeholder text in Edge is quite simple and can be done in just a few simple steps:
- Go to Start.
- In the search box, type “regedit”.
- In the list of results, click Registry Editor to open the program.
- Now, navigate to the following address:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AppContainer\Storage\microsoft.microsoftedge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\MicrosoftEdge\ServiceUI
- You will need to create the following REG_DWORD values:
HideAddressBoxPlaceholderTextOnStartPage
HideAddressBoxPlaceholderTextOnNewTabPage
- Once you have created the above REG_DWORD values, set the value data for each one to “1”.
- You can now close the Registry Editor.
- Go back to the Microsoft Edge web browser.
You can now see that the search box placeholder is gone and there is a blank space in the address box instead
