Run the Game as an Administrator

it’s common knowledge that games are resource-hungry. Most of the time, the resources that these games require to run properly are protected system files that require advance permission to access. If the game does not have these permissions, Windows will block it whenever it tries to access these resources.

Battalion 1944 could be crashing because it doesn’t have the right to access the system resources that it needs to function normally. To resolve the problem, in this case, you have to run it as an administrator, using an account with administrative privileges.

To Run the game as an administrator, you have to right-click on its shortcut or its Start menu entry and select run as administrator whenever you want to open it.

However, if you don’t want to go through the hassle of always right-clicking on the game, you will have to change its properties. Follow the steps below:

  1. Summon a File Explorer window by right-clicking the Start button and selecting File Explorer in the Quick Access menu. You can also click on the folder icon on your taskbar or use the Windows + E hotkey to launch the app faster.
  2. Once the File Explorer window comes up, switch to the left sidebar and click on This PC.
  3. Go over to the right pane of the window and double-click on your Windows volume (normally Local Disk C).
  4. Once the volume opens, locate the Program Files (x86) folder and open it.
  5. Open the Steam folder once the Program Files (x86) folder opens.
  6. Next, double-click on the Steamapps folder when you get to the Steam folder.
  7. Open the Common folder once the Steamapps folder opens.
  8. Now, locate Battalion 1944’s installation folder and double-click it.
  9. The steps so far should take you to the game’s folder, provided that you installed it and Steam in their default directories. The folder’s location will be different if you chose a different path while installing the game or Steam. If this is the case, you’ll have to follow the steps below to get to the game’s folder:
  • Launch the Steam client, using its shortcut on your Desktop or by going through the Start menu if you don’t have a shortcut.
  • After the Steam client appears, navigate to the top of the window and click on Library.
  • If a context menu appears, click on Games.
  • Once the list of games attached to your Steam account appears, locate Battalion 1944, right-click it, then select Properties.
  • Go to the Properties environment on the right side of the window and click on Local Files.
  • Under the Local Files tab, click on the “Browse Local Files” button.
  • The game’s folder will now appear.
  1. Once you get to the folder, locate the game’s EXE file, right-click it, then click on Properties.
  2. After the game’s Properties dialog appears, switch to the Compatibility tab.
  3. Now, check the box beside “Run this program as an administrator,” then click on the OK button.
  4. You can now run Battalion 1944 and check if it crashes.

Prevent Your System Protection Program from Blocking Battalion 1944

Antivirus programs don’t always play nice with games. Due to the way games hog system resources, these security programs tend to consider them as threats and block their files as a result. When this occurs, you’ll encounter issues with the affected game, including crashes.

Many Battalion 1944 players found this to be the root cause of the crashing problem they were facing and were able to resolve it by temporarily disabling their antivirus programs. You can try this out, but once you switch off your antivirus program and find that the game is no longer crashing, we recommend that you add it as an exclusion. This is a better solution than keeping your security program disabled.

Adding the game as an exclusion shouldn’t be a difficult task, as you can find the option in your settings environment. You should note that the option could go by a different name in your antivirus program, as it’s commonly called the Exemption list, SafeList or the Whitelist. If you don’t know what to do, you can check the website of your program’s developer for a guide.

If you don’t use any third-party antivirus program and rely on the native system protection suite, then you have to add the game as an exclusion in the Virus & Threat Protection tool. The steps below will show you what to do:

  1. Go to the Settings application. You can launch the app via the Start menu or by using the Windows + I keyboard combination.
  2. After you see the home screen of the app, go to the last icon row and click on Update & Security.
  3. Once the Update & Security interface shows up, navigate to the left pane and click on Windows Security.
  4. On the main page of the Window, you’ll see different options under Protection Areas. Click on Virus & Threat Protection.
  5. The Virus & Threat Protection page of the Windows Security app will now show up.
  6. Next, scroll down till you get to the Virus & Threat Protection Settings section, then click on Manage Settings.
  7. Once you get to the Virus & Threat Protection Settings environment, scroll down to Exclusions and click on “Add or remove exclusions.”
  8. Now, on the Exclusions page, click on the Add an Exclusion icon, then click on Folder in the menu that fades out.
  9. After you see the Select Folder dialog, navigate to the installation folder of Battalion 1944, left-click it, then click on the Select Folder icon in the bottom-right corner of the dialog window.
  10. Once you confirm that the game has been added as an exclusion, launch it and check for the crashing issue.

Verify the Integrity of the Game Files

Games are made up of different files. If any of these files happen to be missing or damaged, various problems like sudden crashes will occur. Game files go missing or become corrupt for reasons such as abrupt system shutdowns mid-game, antivirus interference, improper installation, and malware attacks.

To resolve the issue, you can use your gaming client to scan for these problematic files and replace them. The following steps will help:

  1. Launch the Steam client, using its shortcut on your Desktop or by going through the Start menu if you don’t have a shortcut.
  2. After the Steam client appears, navigate to the top of the window and click on Library.
  3. If a context menu appears, click on Games.
  4. Once the list of games attached to your Steam account appears, locate Battalion 1944, right-click it, then select Properties.
  5. Go to the Properties environment on the right side of the window and click on Local Files.
  6. Under the Local Files tab, click on the “Verify Integrity of Game Files” button.
  7. The client will now begin to check the game’s files on your computer, comparing them with those on its servers. It will automatically replace any file that is problematic or missing.
  8. The duration of the verification process will depend on the size and number of files that are being redownloaded.
  9. Once the process completes, Steam will notify you via a dialog box.
  10. Restart the client, then launch the game and check for the problem.

Reinstall Your Graphics Card Driver

If you haven’t checked that your graphics card driver doesn’t have issues, you’re skipping one of the most basic troubleshooting steps when it comes to game-related problems.

Your driver controls how your GPU renders your game, and if it has any issue, the game will be rendered unplayable. You’ll have to start by reinstalling the driver to remove any glitch that might be plaguing it.

The steps below will walk you through the process:

  1. On your keyboard, punch the Windows and S keys simultaneously or click on the magnifying glass icon in the taskbar to summon the search utility beside the Start button.
  2. After the search box appears, type “device manager” (without the quotes), then click on Device Manager in the results list.
  3. When the Device Manager opens, go to Display Adapters and click on the arrow beside it to reveal your graphics card.
  4. Right-click on your graphics card and select Uninstall Device from the context menu.
  5. Now, click on the Uninstall button once the Uninstall Device confirmation dialog pops up.
  6. Wait for Windows to remove the driver, then restart your computer once it’s done.
  7. After your system boots up, your operating system will automatically reinstall your graphics card driver.
  8. You can also force it to perform the installation by going to the Device Manager and clicking on the Scan for Hardware icon (represented by a magnifying glass on a monitor).

If reinstalling the driver proves ineffective or if Windows fails to reinstall it, go to the next method to find out how you can properly update your driver.

Update Your Graphics Card Driver

Graphics card manufacturers routinely releases updated driver software to improve the general performance of their cards or resolve certain bugs. Most games come with new features that require driver tweaks to work well. In this case, reinstalling the driver won’t resolve the problem because it’s no longer compatible with the game.

We’ll show the different methods involved in updating your graphics card driver.

Using Windows Update

Windows Update provides Microsoft-approved driver software alongside other software updates. While these driver updates don’t make it to the platform as early as other channels, you’ll be getting a driver version that works well for your system, having been tested and verified by Microsoft.

The steps below will show you how to carry out an update if you’ve forgotten the process:

  1. Go to the Settings application. You can launch the app via the Start menu or by using the Windows + I keyboard combination.
  2. After you see the home screen of the app, go to the last icon row and click on Update & Security.
  3. Once the Update & Security interface shows up, click on the Check for Updates button under the Windows Update tab.
  4. Windows Update will now check for updates that are available for your PC.
  5. If you don’t have available updates, the utility will notify you. In this case, you’ll have to move on to the next guide.
  6. If you have available updates, the tool will notify you and begin to download them.
  7. Once the downloads are complete, click on the Restart Now button to allow the utility to reboot your computer and install the updates it just downloaded.
  8. Your PC will now restart to the installation environment, rebooting several times along the process.
  9. After the updates are installed, your computer will boot up normally.
  10. You can now launch Battalion 1944 to check for the crashing problem.
