A significant number of apps do not have full Windows 10 optimization. The reason is that they have not been optimized for the Windows 10 Technical Preview builds yet. Some of Microsoft’s in-house apps are also not fully optimized, including People, Mail, and Calendar.  Fix 1: Use PowerShell

Using the Admin account on your PC, follow these instructions to perform a couple of maneuvers:

  • Use Search and, type cmd and open Command Prompt.
  • The Command Prompt window will open. In the window, type PowerShell followed by “Enter” (Take note, the window stays the same, but the command line will begin with ‘PS’).
  • To remove the malfunctioning People, Mail and Calendar apps, paste this command line and press “Enter:” Get-appxprovisionedpackage –online | where-object {$_.packagename –like “*windowscommunicationsapps*”} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage –online
  • Wait for the confirmation message notifying you that the operation has been completed. Restart your PC, and you will see the changes.

Fix 2: Reinstall the apps

After restarting your PC, follow these steps:

  • Go to the Start Menu, open the green Store App tile under the “All Apps” section (the grey Windows Store tile is a beta version and not the best for fixing the issue, so don’t open that one).
  • Use your Microsoft Account to sign in to the Windows Store.
  • Once in Store, search for Mail. The result that pops up is for People, Mail and Calendar apps.
  • Select the particular result and install the apps.
  • Wait to get the confirmation message. (In case you’re prompted to add a payment account during installation, skip the prompt as it’s not necessary).

Fix 3: Reset Mail and Calendar

If the first two solutions fail to work, here is how you can reset People, Mail, and Calendar apps. Follow these instructions:

  • Go to Settings
  • Click on Apps
  • Click Apps & Features
  • Scroll down and find Mail and Calendar, open “Advanced ”
  • A new window pops up. Click Reset

Fix 4: Run the Windows Store App troubleshooter

If you’re still searching on how to make the Windows Mail app work on Windows 10 at this point, your problem is more challenging. The Mail and Calendar App comes from the Microsoft Store app, meaning Windows 10’s built-in troubleshooter can also be used to fix the problem.

To fix Windows Mail not working using the Windows 10 built-in troubleshooter, do the following;

  • Go to Settings
  • Click on Update & Security
  • Click Troubleshooter
  • Select to run the Windows Store App troubleshooter
