Prevent Your System Protection Program from Blocking Last Oasis

Make sure your antivirus program isn’t quarantining or blocking the game. It’s not news that protection suites sometimes mistake games as security threats and block their files as a result. In certain situations, these security applications go as far as deleting game files moments after installation.

You can put an end to this by adding the game’s installation folder as an exception in the antivirus. Locating the exceptions feature shouldn’t be a problem. Every antivirus program uses a self-explanatory name for the feature, such as:

  1. Exclusions
  2. Exemptions
  3. SafeList
  4. Whitelist

To access the feature, you just have to find your way to Settings or preferences environment. If you don’t understand the interface of your antivirus, you can find a guide on the website of the app’s developer that will walk you through the process.

The guide below will show you how to add the game’s folder as an Exclusion in the Virus & Threat Protection tool of Windows’ native security program:

  1. Punch the Windows logo key (or click on the Start button) and click on the cogwheel icon once you see the Start menu. If you want to launch Settings faster, tap the Windows logo key and the I key together.
  2. Click on the Update & Security icon once the home screen of the Settings app shows up.
  3. Next, click on Windows Security in the left pane of the Update & Security interface.
  4. After that, go to the main page and click on Virus & Threat Protection under Protection Areas.
  5. Once you see the Virus & Threat Protection interface, scroll down and click on Manage Settings under Virus & Threat Protection Settings.
  6. Now, scroll down and click on “Add or remove exclusions” under the Exclusions section.
  7. When the Exclusions screen appears, click on “Add an exclusion,” and then choose Folder from the menu that drops down.
  8. Next, navigate to the installation folder of Last Oasis, select it, and then click on the Select Folder button.

Note: You have to add Last Oasis as an Exclusion or Exception whenever you update or reinstall it.

Run the Game as an Administrator

Generally, launch failures tend to occur when the game does not have access to certain system resources, such as protected system files and folders. You can grant Last Oasis the permissions to access the resources by running it as an administrator. Many gamers found this to be the solution to their launch problem in the game.

Note that before you run a game as an administrator, you have to first be on a user account that has admin privileges. Since you run Last Oasis via Steam, you’ll have to manually adjust its Properties to prompt Windows to run it as an administrator whenever you launch it from the client. The steps below will show you how to locate its EXE file and perform the necessary fix:

  1. Open a File Explorer window by right-clicking the Start button and clicking on File Explorer in the Quick Access menu.
  2. Once the File Explorer window appears, switch to the left sidebar and click on This PC.
  3. Head to the right pane of the window and double-click the drive where Windows is installed (this is usually the Local Disk C).
  4. Once the drive opens, open the Program Files (x86) folder.
  5. Double-click the Steam folder after the Program Files (x86) folder opens.
  6. Now, locate the Steamapps folder and double-click it once you see the Steam folder.
  7. Open the Common folder once the contents of the Steamapps folder appears.
  8. Next, navigate to the installation folder of Last Oasis and open it.
  9. If you didn’t install the game or Steam in the default location, then the steps above won’t do you any good. Follow these steps instead to locate the game’s installation folder:
  • Launch Steam by clicking on its icon on your Desktop or by going through the Start menu if you don’t have a Desktop icon.
  • Once the Steam client opens, go to the top of the window and click on Library.
  • After the list of games attached to your Steam account appears, locate Last Oasis, right-click it, then select Properties.
  • Go to the Properties interface on the right side of the window and click on Local Files.
  • Click on the “Browse Local Files” button under the Local Files tab.
  • The game’s folder will now pop up.
  1. In the folder, locate the game’s EXE file, right-click it, then click on Properties.
  2. After the Properties dialog window opens, switch to the Compatibility tab.
  3. Now, check the box associated with “Run this program as an administrator,” then click on
  4. the OK button.
  5. Run the game and check if it crashes.

Verify the Integrity of the Game’s Files

Another factor that causes the launch issue is problematic game files. If certain installation files, which are related to the startup process become broken or go missing, the game will fail to start up. Simply put, these files are what make the game work. They can easily be compromised by malware, your antivirus program might block or delete them, and an abrupt system shutdown might damage them. To resolve the problem, you’ll have to use the Steam client to verify the integrity of your game files.

What the client will do is to compare the files on your computer to does an its servers. If it finds any to be irregular or problematic, the client will automatically replace it.

The steps below will show you how to use the Steam client to scan for problematic game files and automatically replace them:

  1. Open the Start menu and launch the Steam client or double-click on the app’s Desktop shortcut.
  2. After Steam shows up, go to the top of the window and click on Library.
  3. Once you see your list of games, navigate to Last Oasis, right-click on the game, and then select Properties from the context menu.
  4. Go to the right side of the Window and switch to the Local Files tab.
  5. Under the Local Files tab, click on the button that reads, VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME FILES.
  6. The program will now begin to check the game’s files on your computer. It will automatically replace files that are corrupt and/or missing.
  7. The duration of the verification process will depend on your computer’s speed, Internet strength, and the number and size of files being replaced.
  8. After the process completes, launch the game and check for the launching issue.

Adjust Your Graphics Cards Settings

Every GPU manufacturer provide an appropriate tip program where you can tweak the graphics cards performance settings. Without using an AMD card or an NVIDIA card you would have a way to adjust the driver settings to properly manage your game. We have provided different settings in both the Nvidia control panel and AMD Radeon settings that will help you boost performance in last Oasis.

Run the Game on Your Dedicated Graphics Card

Systems that use integrated GPUs alongside discrete display adapters tend to always force applications to run on the integrated card because they are trying to conserve power. Although this is normally a Windows thing, you can easily force the game to run on only the dedicated card. You will find out how to do that, using the Windows Settings application, NVIDIA Control Panel, and AMD Radeon Settings.

AMD Radeon Settings

  1. Right-click on your Desktop’s empty surface and select AMD Radeon Settings from the context menu.
  2. After AMD Radeon Settings shows up, go to the top-right corner of the window and click on System.
  3. Once the System interface of AMD Radeon Settings appears, navigate to the top-right corner of the window, and this time, click on Switchable Graphics.
  4. The first view to come up under Switchable Graphics will be the Running Applications view. This interface allows you to change the Switchable Graphics mode of currently open programs or apps that were recently closed.
  5. If you don’t see Last Oasis on this page, navigate to the top-right corner of the window and click on Running Applications under Switchable Graphics.
  6. Click on Installed Profiled Applications to display all the programs that AMD Radeon Settings can detect.
  7. Now, navigate to Last Oasis, click on its arrow, and then select High Performance.
  8. If you still can’t find the game in this view, go to the top-right corner of the window and click on the Browse option.
  9. Once the Browse dialog window comes up, go to Last Oasis’ installation folder and double-click its EXE file.
  10. You can now change the game’s Switchable Graphics mode to High Performance.

  7. Once Last Oasis’ entry appears on the Graphics Settings screen, click on it, then click on the Options button that fades out under it.
  8. The Graphics Specifications dialog will now open, displaying details of both GPUs. Your integrated card is the Power Saving GPU and your dedicated card is the High Performance GPU.
  9. Click the radio button for High Performance and click on Save.

Update Your Graphics Card Driver

If your GPU driver isn’t up to date, make sure you download and install its latest version. It is possible that the card’s driver is problematic and might be causing the game’s launching problem. There are different ways to update your graphics card driver, from using Windows Update to going to the website of the cards manufacturer and downloading the update.

Even if you recently installed and updated the graphics card driver, it is possible you did it the wrong way. Follow the methods we’ll explain below to make sure you install the driver correctly.

Using the Windows Update Utility

Windows Update downloads and installs the latest versions of different device drivers alongside its main job of installing updates for the operating system. The devices that get updated drivers include the graphics card, the network card, and the audio card, among others.

Normally, your system is meant to be up to date if it is hooked up to the internet and you aren’t running a metered connection. However, you still have to check from time to time to make sure the Windows Update utility has been doing its job.

Follow the steps below to check for updates and install them:

  1. Tap the Windows logo key or click on the Start button to open the Start menu. Once you the Start menu, click on the gear icon above the Power icon.
  2. You can launch the Settings app faster by pressing the Windows and I keys together.
  3. After you see the home screen of Settings, click on Update & Security at the bottom of the window.
  4. Once the Update & Security interface opens, stay in the Windows Update tab and click on Check for Updates.
  5. If Windows Update has downloaded and installed all your updates before now, you’ll see the “You are up to date” message flanked by a green check mark. If this applies to you, move on to the next guide.
  6. If there are available updates for your PC, however, the utility will begin to download them automatically. If it asks for permission to start downloading the updates, grant it.
  7. Once Windows Update successfully downloads the updates, it’ll automatically install them. If it needs to restart your PC to install the updates, click on the Restart Now button to permit it.
  8. Your computer will now reboot to the installation environment. The utility will restart your PC several times before the installation is complete.
  9. Once the updates are installed, your system will boot up normally. You can now run Last Oasis and check if it opens normally.

Using the Device Manager

You can use the Device Manager to search for updates online or install them directly from your computer. If you’re installing from your computer, you must have downloaded the updated driver from your card’s manufacturer’s website. However, it is best that you are allow the Device Manager to perform an automatic search and install the driver itself. The following steps will show you how to do that:

  1. Punch the Windows logo key and the S key simultaneously or click on the magnifying glass icon in the taskbar to open the search function beside the Start button.
  2. When the search utility opens, type “device manager” (without the quotes) into the text box and click on the first entry on the results list, which should be Device Manager.
  3. After the Device Manager window appears, navigate to the Display Adapters menu and click on the arrow beside it to expand it.
  4. Once you see your graphics card under the Display Adapters tree, right-click it, and then click on Update Driver in the context menu.
  5. After the Update Driver window appears, click on the “Search automatically for updated driver software” option under “How do you want to search for drivers” once the Update Driver window shows up.
  6. Windows will now search for the driver online, and then download and install it.
  7. Once the update process completes, reboot your PC and run Last Oasis to check for the problem.

Use an Automated Program

With the Device Manager and Windows Update, the success of downloading and installing the updated version of a graphics card driver depends on Microsoft’s release schedule. If Microsoft hasn’t published the driver updates, on its servers, Windows Update and Device Manager won’t be able to download and install them.

That said, you can save yourself the stress and uncertainty that comes with using these programs by going for a third-party application such as Auslogics Driver Updater. The tool downloads and installs only officially signed drivers. It will take away the stress of searching for drivers by providing the updated driver automatically when it detects that your graphics card has an issue.

The following steps will show you how to download, install, and use Auslogics Driver Updater:

  1. Navigate to the download page of Auslogics Driver Updater and hit the Download button.
  2. Once your browser downloads the setup file, run it.
  3. Click on Yes in the User Account Control dialog box.
  4. Once the setup wizard appears, choose your preferred language, indicate where you’d like to install the program and enter other preferences.
  5. Click on the Click to Install button.
  6. After the installation process is complete, allow Auslogics Driver Updater to scan your system for problematic device drivers.
  7. Once you see the list drivers that are out of date or damaged, click on the Update button to install their latest versions.

Conclusion

The game should now be able to launch without issues. If you still experience the problem, consider reinstalling it. However, we don’t believe you’ll have to do that as the fixes above resolved the issue for many gamers.
