When your computer is performing slower than usual or when it is freezing or crashing, you’ll naturally wonder why the issue is happening. Of course, the best place to investigate is the Task Manager. As you get even more frustrated, you’ll start nitpicking and checking every process that might be hogging your PC’s resources. You’ll notice that a certain beserver.exe is running. If you’re the inquisitive type, you might ask, “What is beserver.exe doing on my computer?”

If you notice that operations are running slower, then beserver.exe is likely crashing on kernelbase.dll. Don’t worry because we’ll explain everything you need to know in this post. We will also teach you how to fix the beserver.exe crashing issue.

What Is Beserver.exe?

One vital thing to know about beserver.exe is that it is an essential component of Veritas Backup Exec. This program is responsible for ensuring that all your backups are up to date. Don’t worry about this task because it is generally considered to be safe. Moreover, it is unlikely to cause harm to your operating system. So, when you see it on Task Manager, you must refrain from terminating it.

Beserver.exe is an executable file which contains machine code. When you launch the Backup Exec 7.x/8.x Server software on your computer, the commands that this file contains will be executed on your device. This is also the reason why the file is usually loaded into your RAM, running as a Backup Exec 7.x/8.x Server process. You can open Task Manager to see how much CPU, memory, disk, network, and GPU resources the process consumes.

Beserver.exe is a non-system process that originated from software installed on your system. Errors related to this process have something to do with fragmentation or corrupted registry keys. It is worth noting that most programs store data in your system’s registry and on your hard disk. So, if beserver.exe is encountering problems, then it is likely that your PC has accumulated invalid registry entries. Another possibility is that your computer is suffering from fragmentation.

Why Is Beserver.exe Crashing on Kernelbase.dll?

There are various reasons why beserver.exe keeps on crashing. In some cases, the issue lies in the program itself. You may be running an outdated or corrupted Backup Exec 7.x/8.x Server. On the other hand, this program can also crash because your anti-virus is interfering with its operations. You can try the solutions below to resolve all your beserver.exe-related problems.

Solution 1: Disabling Your Antivirus

As we’ve mentioned, your third-party anti-virus may be interfering with Backup Exec 7.x/8.x Server. So, you should temporarily disable the tool. If the issue is gone, then we suggest that you switch to a more reliable security program. This way, you can still have the protection you need without worrying about system performance problems.

What’s more, it can work alongside Windows Defender, functioning as an extra layer of security for your PC.

Solution 2: Defragging Your Hard Drive

One of the reasons why beserver.exe crashes is because of fragmentation on your hard drive. So, to resolve the issue, we recommend running an effective defragging process. You can follow the instructions below:

If you cannot resolve the
problem yourself, you can
ask our certified PC technicians for immediate assistance in the chat right on this page.
  1. Go to your taskbar, then click the Search icon.
  2. Inside the Search bar, type “defrag” (no quotes).
  3. Select Defragment and Optimize Drives from the results.
  4. Once the utility is up, select the hard drive you want to defragment.
  5. Click Analyze to begin the process.
  6. Go to the results to see the percentage of fragmented files. If it is beyond 5%, then it is time to defragment your hard drive.
  7. To defrag your drive, click Optimize.

Note: The process may take a while to complete. Moreover, it is best that you perform it when you are not doing anything else on your computer. This way, the defragmentation will be accomplished more efficiently.

Once the process is done, check if beserver.exe is functioning normally. If you want better control over the defragmentation process, we recommend that you use the Disk Defrag feature on the pro version of Auslogics BoostSpeed. It works more effectively and much faster, leaving you with a drive that performs at its optimum capacity. This tool will speed up data access, allowing your drives to operate smoothly.

What’s more, BoostSpeed’s Disk Defrag feature comes with a cluster map that shows you the locations of the fragmented files. If you want to learn more about the status of your hard drive, you can observe the colorful blocks of the cluster map.

Another excellent thing about BoostSpeed is it comes with other features that help improve the performance of your PC. You can use it to get rid of junk files, tweak non-optimal system settings, and remove unneeded browser extensions. Indeed, it is an all-in-one tool that is perfect for keeping your computer in tip-top shape.

Solution 3: Updating Windows

Updating your operating system is one of the best ways to fix bugs and errors. So, if you’re dealing with an outdated or corrupted beserver.exe file, then updating Windows can resolve the problem. Here are the steps:

  1. Press Windows Key+I on your keyboard to launch the Settings app.
  2. Select Update & Security from the options.
  3. Click Windows Update from the left-pane menu.
  4. Move to the right pane, then click the Check for Updates button.
  5. If there are available updates, download them.
  6. Once the download process is complete, restart your computer to begin the installation.

Note: Depending on the size of the updates, your PC may reboot several times.

After updating your operating system, check if your computer’s performance has improved.

Solution 4: Removing Beserver.exe

As we’ve mentioned, beserver.exe is a non-system process. Since it is not critical to running your operating system, then you can stop it. The program is used by Backup Exec 7.x/8.x Server, which is an application from Veritas Software Corporation. If you are heavily using this service, we suggest that you avoid terminating it.

On the other hand, if you find no use for Backup Exec 7.x/8.x Server, then you can remove it from your PC. Here are the steps:

  1. On your keyboard, press Windows Key+R. Doing so will launch the Run dialog box.
  2. Inside the Run dialog box, type “appwiz.cpl” (no quotes), then click OK.
  3. You will see the list of programs installed on your computer. Look for Backup Exec 7.x/8.x Server, right-click it, then select Uninstall from the context menu.

After removing Backup Exec 7.x/8.x Server, restart your computer and check if it is running smoothly.
