Antivirus 2010- What to do when Auslogics Antivirus cannot detect a virus or spyware?
'False negatives', meaning that the program fails to detect a file that is malicious, occur very rarely. This usually happens when the malware uses an unknown technique to hide itself from the antivirus software. This doesn't happen often and when it does, Antivirus is promptly updated to detect and remove this new type of malware.

- How are tweaks rated in Tweak Manager?
Each page in Tweak Manager has a tweak rating. Numbers from 1 to 3 specify how much effect the tweaks on this page have on your computer. If only 1 is highlighted, then the tweak has little effect on the performance. If 1, 2 and 3 are highlighted, the tweaks on this page are most powerful. Green tick means that the tweak can be used by a novice user and a red sign means that only experienced users should modify tweaks on this page.
- What are risk levels in Registry Cleaner and Track Eraser?
Some programs on the Internet, such as registry cleaners or disk cleaners try to find as many problems in a computer as possible, trying to impress the user. However, this is not always safe, as removing some of the problems will make the computer unstable. Therefore, BoostSpeed does not follow this trend, and only cleans green (safe) items by default. Novice users should only clean these items. Experienced users, who know more about Windows file system and the Registry can also choose to scan orange and red categories.
- What are Windows services?
A Windows service is a long-running program that performs specific functions and which is designed not to require user intervention. Usually, Windows services start when the Microsoft Windows operating system is booted and run in the background as long as Windows is running.
Once a service is installed, it can be managed by launching Services from the Windows Control Panel => Administrative Tools or typing Services.msc in the Run command on Start menu. Note that disabling services is dangerous and can reduce the functionality of your computer.
Auslogics will add a new optimization wizard and a simplified service manager into its BoostSpeed suite to help you disable the services that your computer does not need and leave the important services running.
- What exactly does Auslogics PCSecurity do?
Windows XP and newer versions include some services that can be the cause of attacks on your computer. They are called Remote Registry and Messaging Service. PCSecurity disables these services, thus protecting your computer from those particular types of attacks.
These services are rarely used. Disabling them won't cause any system malfunctions. Moreover, whenever you need to use these services again, you can disable security either straight from the program or via Rescue Center.
Please note that disabling these services doesn't cause any connection problems, affects neither Internet speed, nor any other system functions.
- What does service performance mean?
Each service uses computer resources - memory, CPU, or hard disk(s). We have tried to estimate how resource-heavy is each service and created Perfomace Impact reference to help you establish which services are the most resource-heavy and whether you need them for your everyday computer activities or not.
Disk Defrag- What's the difference between simple defragmentation and 'Defrag & Optimize' mode?
Unlike simple defragmentation, 'Defrag & Optimize' mode applies several optimization techniques:
- Free space consolidation
- System files smart placement*
- Moving regular files from the MFT Reserved Zone to the rest of the disk space
*This feature is disabled by default. You can enable it under the 'Algorithms' tab in the program settings.
- Can I defragment large disks of several terabytes?
Yes. Disk Defrag is supplied with a powerful engine that allows defragmenting multi-terabyte drives.
- What is MFT?
Probably the most important of the key system (metadata) files that define an NTFS volume,
the Master File Table or MFT is the place where information about every file and directory on
an NTFS volume is stored. The MFT is in essence a relational database table, containing
various attributes about different files. It acts as the 'starting point' and central management
feature of an NTFS volume--sort of a 'table of contents' for the volume, if you will. It is
somewhat analog to the file allocation table in a FAT partition, but is much more than just
a list of used and available clusters.
Currently we are working on the MFT defragmentation support, so that your MFT can also be
defragmented by the program. This feature will be available in one of the future major
versions of the program.
- Can it defragment RAID?
Auslogics Disk Defrag works well for RAID disks too.
The RAID controller still presents the RAID disks as an NTFS storage to the file system and
therefore Auslogics Disk Defrag will not do anything differently for RAID arrays.
- Which temporary files will Disk Defrag remove?
When the option is enabled, Disk Defrag removes temporary files in the following locations before defragmenting:
C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Temp (or C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Temp), and
C:\Windows\Temp. This can significantly improve the defragmentation speed.
- Why are some of the files skipped by the program?
Sometimes Disk Defrag skips certain files because they are locked by another running program. Common solution would
be to exit all running applications when you defragment your disk.
Some files (MFT, etc.) are skipped because they are system files and cannot be defragmented by this program.
Disk Defrag also needs a contiguous disk space for each file to be defragmented. If your disk has a lot of free space, but it is broken into small
free space intervals, Disk Defrag is unable to defragment some of the large files (such as movies, etc.). To tackle this problem, you can run 'Defrag & Optimize' mode.
It will consolidate free space into a contiguous block and defragment even the largest files on your disks.
Disk Defrag can defragment hard drives with as little as 1% of free space available. However, better results can be achieved if there is at least 10% of free space on the disk.
- What is Free space not found error?
Disk Defrag needs a contiguous disk space for each file to be defragmented. If your disk has a lot of free space,
but it is broken into small free space intervals, Disk Defrag is unable to defragment some of the large files (such as movies, etc.). To tackle this
problem, you can run 'Defrag & Optimize' mode. It will consolidate free space into a contiguous block and defragment even largest files on your disks.
Disk Defrag can defragment hard drives with as little as 1% of free space available. However, better results can be achieved if there is at least 10% of free space on the disk.
- Does it support command line? Can I schedule Disk Defrag?
Yes, Disk Defrag supports command line and has a scheduler.
The command line tool is called 'cdefrag.exe' and can be found in the program folder once you download and install the program.
Home users may find that they are more comfortable with the feature-rich built-in scheduler. Run the program, then click on Settings... in the program menu and switch to the Task Scheduler page.
- Can Disk Defrag run on Vista and Windows 7? Can it run on a 64-bit computer?
Yes, it can. Auslogics Disk Defrag supports the following Windows versions:
- Windows XP with SP2 or later (32-bit and 64-bit)
- Windows Vista (32-bit and 64-bit)
- Windows 2008 (32-bit and 64-bit)
- Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit)
It does not support Windows 2000, 2003, 95, 98, 98SE or Windows ME.
- What languages is Disk Defrag available in?
Currently Disk Defrag is available in German, English, Spanish, French, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese and Russian languages. However, we have designed user-friendly and very simple
instructions for translating Disk Defrag into any language. If you like our software, you can contribute to developing Disk Defrag by translating it into your native language.

Duplicate File Finder- What is MD5?
MD5 is an algorithm which allows to find files with identical content by comparing their checksums. MD5 checksum of a file is as unique as a fingerprint of a specific individual. That is why there is a very small possibility of getting two identical checksums of two different files.
- Can Auslogics Duplicate File Finder check files on removable drives?

Emergency Recovery- Some files were restored incorrectly. Why?
Emergency Recovery works by trying to restore the original file
contents. The moment a file is deleted, its data on disk is not
physically deleted, but rather marked as free. Chances are that newly
created files can partially overwrite the space occupied by the
deleted file. In this case, it's not possible to restore the file
completely. And, although the file might look like it was restored,
the contents of the file can differ from that of the original.
Usually the best chance to restore the files is when the files are
not on disk C: and when they are restored as soon as possible.
- Does Emergency Recovery support Windows Vista or Windows 7? Does it work with 64-bit CPU?
Auslogics Emergency Recovery supports the following Windows versions:
- Windows 2000 (32-bit and 64-bit)
- Windows 2003 (32-bit and 64-bit)
- Windows XP with SP2 or later (32-bit and 64-bit)
- Windows Vista (32-bit and 64-bit)
- Windows 2008 (32-bit and 64-bit)
- Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit)
It does not support Windows 95, 98, 98SE or Windows ME.
Registry Cleaner- Does Auslogics Registry Cleaner support Windows Vista? Does it work with a 64-bit CPU?
Auslogics Registry Cleaner works with the following Windows versions:
- Windows XP with SP2 or later (32-bit and 64-bit)
- Windows Vista (32-bit and 64-bit)
- Windows 2008 (32-bit and 64-bit)
- Windows 2003 (32-bit and 64-bit)
- Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit)
It does not support Windows 95, 98, 98SE, 2000 or Windows ME.
- Is Auslogics Registry Cleaner safe to use?
Yes, it is. Unlike some other registry cleaners, Auslogics Registry Cleaner doesn’t try to find as many problems as possible. It only deletes safe items by default. Novice users should only clean those items. However, advanced users can select the Advanced scan mode to scan categories with higher risk level.
- Why does Auslogics Registry Cleaner find fewer errors than some other similar programs?
The answer is simple – safety reasons. We don’t want our registry cleaner to first impress you with the number of errors found and then make your system unstable, or even worse – unbootable. By default Auslogics Registry Cleaner will delete only safe-to-delete items.
- Is it really free?
Yes, it is. No hidden costs, no viruses, no spyware.
- My computer is still slow. How can I make it faster?
Cleaning the Registry is vital, but sometimes not enough. There are also disks that need cleaning and defragmenting, settings to be optimized, unneeded Windows services that can be disabled, various tweaks to be applied.
Download Auslogics BoostSpeed to maximize the speed of your PC.
Registry Defrag- Why does Registry Defrag need to start when my computer starts?
Registry Defrag needs to compact the registry which is only possible during reboot, when no other programs are running and using the registry. This is why Registry Defrag schedules itself to be started
on the next reboot. Please note that it schedules itself to run only once. It will display a defragmentation report and will not run the next time you restart your PC.
- Is compacting the Registry safe?
Registry Defrag works in such a way, that it takes all potential problems into account. All program operating stages are thoroughly checked, and the program will stop if there are any problems. Registry Defrag 5.0 and onwards use a new defragmentation mechanism that works on computer reboot. This algorithm is much more stable and eliminates the possibility of any problems occurring while defragmenting the Registry.
- Why are the figures shown by the program in the course of analyzing the Registry different from those shown after defragmentation?
It's normal. During the analyzing stage a valuation algorithm is used. It is optimized for fast work and small CPU use, so the figures you get are approximate. During defragmentation the full version of this algorithm is used, which thoroughly defragments the Registry.
- I launched the program after the first defragmentation and it prompted me to defragment again. Why?
The system actively works with the Registry on boot-up deleting or adding data. That's why on rare occasions the program tells you to run defragmentation again. You can either do it or defragment later when the Registry is much more fragmented. This will not affect system speed in any way, because 99% of Registry data is already defragmented.
- Does Auslogics Registry Defrag support Windows Vista? Does it work with a 64-bit CPU?
Auslogics Registry Defrag works with the following Windows versions:
- Windows XP with SP2 or later (32-bit and 64-bit)
