FAQ

Select from the frequently asked questions below. If you do not see your question, you can contact our technical support and sales staff.

  • How do I install the new version?
Although not strictly necessary, it is recommended that you uninstall the old version of the program before installing the new version. Follow these steps to uninstall the previous version:
    1. Click the 'Start' button (that can be found on bottom left corner of your monitor), click 'Control Panel', and then double-click 'Add or Remove Programs' (or 'Uninstall a program' in Vista).
    2. When you see a window showing the list of currently installed programs, select by clicking on the program that you want to remove, and then click Remove or Uninstall.
    3. If you are prompted to confirm the removal of the program, click 'Yes'.

Note: if you're trying to uninstall BoostSpeed when it is already running, you need to first close it by locating the BoostSpeed icon (blue globe) in the bottom tray area, which is where Windows displays its clock (by default, it is usually located at the bottom right corner). Right-click on this icon with your mouse and choose to exit. Then proceed with the three steps above.

  • What are Windows services?

A Windows service is a long-running program that performs specific functions and which is designed not to require user intervention. Usually, Windows services start when the Microsoft Windows operating system is booted and run in the background as long as Windows is running.

Once a service is installed, it can be managed by launching Services from the Windows Control Panel => Administrative Tools or typing Services.msc in the Run command on Start menu. Note that disabling services is dangerous and can reduce the functionality of your computer.

Auslogics BoostSpeed 5 includes a simplified service manager to help you disable the services that your computer does not need and leave the important services running.

  • What does service performance mean?
Each service uses computer resources - memory, CPU, or hard disk(s). We have tried to estimate how resource-heavy is each service and created Perfomace Impact reference to help you establish which services are the most resource-heavy and whether you need them for your everyday computer activities or not.
